Poster

The poster for the end of year show. I rendered out the character in 3D (z-brush used for material and bump maps did most of the work), rendered out an ambient occlusion map. Overlayed the occlusion map using soft light on top of the normal render. Sketched the drawing out. Put the sketch drawing over the 3D images then digitally painted over that.

Back (B)log III

The Lobby. Where do I start with this. Being made director after a switch a few weeks into pre production regardless of what choices we made this project was doomed.
Anyway dispite major flaws and consistency problems something of a finished film was created. I animated the female characters and the close up at the beginning of the secretary guy. Oh and I did the colour work too, Ross did great layouts even if we were a bit short on them. I got the pleasure of messing around in photoshop colouring them in.

Ah my 1st attempt at a story for the film in 4th year. Codenamed "Tank Boy" just for convience sake (the amount of people who came up to me "er you do know there is a comic by Jamie Hewlitt called Tank Girl people might you know..."). Its about a man blowing up birds in a post apocolyptic world cant get any mind numbing than that. This was also me not taking myself too seriously. These are just colour concepts more than anything else, I think the second lower on was done mostly on Colors the thingy on the DS which is awesome and everyone should have it, its like a portable basic photoshop.

This is just an animamatic of it too, I swore I had it in colour, looked like the pics above...

Back (B)log II

This was my 3rd year film proposal. It was about a love triangle
that ended up a tragedy with all of them dying at the end. There was going to
be a two light system too when the audience would know when the characters are
lying and when they are telling the truth, just to see how paranoia, trust and mistrust works.
The feedback I got was that it was a 6 part hour long live action series late on BBC2 not
a minute and a half short. That there is a niche for
this kind of stuff. I took it as a complement.
I liked the concept style for the film, it was going to look roughly like these pictures do.

Back (B)log

This brings back the good ol days of 1st year.
This is a little poster I did of all the characters in
our children series pitch. I would still make it
even if the story is a bit ridiculous.

A short film I did in 3d in first year. I did it all in a weekend,
dont think anyone else did any work. We had a short period of time
so I commandeered the project and did it all since I was the only one
comfortable at that stage in 3D. Fionn did get the music. Its pretty cool.
Look out for the power ranger kid.

Ah 2nd year. This picture is from my second year pitch.
It was about a guy deciding to live in a suburban area or in the city.
Its about whether he wants to be free but possibly lonely or have little
freedom but feel accepted in the surburban community.
It was to be done in Flash since I knew the industry was heading that
way, after learning it in the summer before I never really used it again
except some animatic work in later years.
It nearly got picked for the film but the computer refused to
play the powerpoint presentation. I was asked to propose the idea again
for the 1st yr degree but I was over the idea and wanted to something different.

Second year character designs. A female version of me.
Thats what we had to do. Very strange thing indeed.
I like them though, missing a few drawings of her
but these ones were the more finalized versions.

My pan, probably the only one I have done and finished.
It was for a storyboard excercise where the story was
that these two guys slowly figure out they were just
killed by the train.

Duburbia, what can I say about this. I remember not sitting
on my chair doing my work as to help others on the project on their work.
I was the techincal guy, its was done in 3d, people did not know 3d that much.
I built the guy character, the nurse, the dog, the ambulance, hospital,
and some of random stuff too. Fair play to Shay who worked on it though
I didnt have to worry about anything he did. I composited the film too with
the help of the tutors and Sophie. Ill post the scenes I animated later as part
of a showreel or something.

Next post will be some 3rd year stuff.
Then the showreel. Hopefully it will be all up by tonight.
